Partnerships

BACCES partners directly with acro festivals, intensive trainings, and organizations to increase BIPOC representation among attendees, coaches, and staff, as well as to support social justice and equity that invite our training spaces to be safer, bolder, and more inclusive.

These partnerships with acro events and festivals are at the core of what we do. We invest deeply in this work and take care to choose partnerships that put inclusivity first and stay focused on ongoing, accountable learning.

What is required for a partnership with BACCES?

  • Partner events commit to donating a number of event tickets/program admission slots for BIPOC attendees. We suggest 2-5% of your prior year’s attendance as a guide. Note that these can be tax-deductible under our fiscal sponsorship.

Partners also commit to hiring BIPOC coaches, with a goal of matching the racial demographics of the city where the event is being held.

  • Partners commit to including at least one paid social justice conversation during the festival/event. At least one organizer is expected to attend. These conversations can be created, planned in partnership, or reviewed by BACCES.

Partners commit to including a meaningful land acknowledgment during their event.

Partners commit to displaying the Acro for All poster at the event.

  • Partners commit to incorporate fundraising for BACCES at the event. This could be a percentage of ticket sales, or call-outs throughout the festival for individual contributions.

First-time partners commit to attend a pre- and post-festival call to discuss and review requirements. Note that payment for additional purchased tickets from BACCES is dependent on participating in both of these phone calls.

Partners recognize that this work extends beyond the time and space of the event itself, and commit to ongoing education and capacity-building to support BIPOC acrobats and justice in our acrobatic spaces.

Benefits of a BACCES Partnership

  • By partnering with us to create better access for BIPOC acrobats, attendance at your training or event will be more diverse and have a broader reach. BIPOC attendees are able to make connections and build community among themselves and those who already have opportunities to attend. These bonds increase feelings of safety and well-being—critical elements of a robust acro environment.

  • By hiring BIPOC coaches and teachers, and increasing access for BIPOC attendees, your event or training can help shift the narrative about who acro is for, and whose practice and experience is valued. These actions can help shift power in our acro community to create more equity.

  • Broadcasting your partnership with BACCES and alignment with our shared goals and principles to create a more equitable acro community is a stepping stone toward change in our wider acrobatic practice. By joining our cohort of partner events and trainings from all over North America (and soon, the world!), you can not only support marginalized acrobats in their practice and their teaching, but also can build powerful connections with other organizers who share our vision for change.

  • Partnering with BACCES means that your event benefits from our social media promotion and broadcasting to the BIPOC community of practitioners. You will be featured on our website as a partner, and we will further connect you connect you with other event organizers for opportunities to share best practices, learnings, and ongoing social justice efforts.

Your event will be known as a container that is curated with BIPOC folks in mind, and with justice in our acro community at the forefront.

Not ready for partnership? Try these ways to engage!

Social Media Promotion

Promote BACCES posts (@BIPOCacro), and direct traffic to other community organizations that center BIPOC.

Create posts about inclusion: let others know how you are working towards equity and accountability at your event.

Volunteer & Donate

Consider ways to volunteer your time and money in your community, and directly support BIPOC organizations.

Giving back to local groups in the area where your event is held acknowledges your impact and community commitment.

Solicit Feedback

Commit to ongoing feedback and dialogue with both BIPOC attendees and BACCES.

Create accountability in your event organizing by engaging in ongoing critical reflection as well as transparency in how feedback is incorporated and acted upon.

Need more support?

We recognize that some potential partners may not have all of the time, educational resources, or capacity to engage in racial justice organizing in the way that a partnership with BACCES requires. We believe in supporting ongoing efforts to build capacity and competency, and we are aware that this hard work often falls to those who are already marginalized and can detract from the numerous projects we are undertaking to support BIPOC participation in acrobatics. If you are needing more support for yourself or your event, we are happy to connect you with expert event organizers and willing consultants who you can pay for additional time, support, and advising.
